The purpose of the association is to promote the sound development and spread of self-service systems, to promote the rationalization of distribution systems through the modernization of commerce, to contribute to the improvement of the consumer lifestyle of the people, and to contribute to the development of the Japanese economy.

Surveys and research on supermarkets
○ Consultation, guidance, diagnosis, and education and training on supermarkets
○ Collection and organization of related materials
○ Liaison and exchange of materials with related government agencies and institutions both in Japan and overseas
○ Publication of journals and other publications
○ Organizing exhibitions such as the "Supermarket Trade Show" and the "Delicatessen Trade Show"
○ Other activities necessary to achieve the association's objectives
